"There must, in every case, be a struggle for existence." (Darwin's
Origin of Species)
A history of the #gb channel.
Since it is hard for any one person to write an unbiased history of
the channel, I thought I would collect a number of views.
- Michael Lawrie's history of #gb is
probably the most complete history you'll find - Lorry is
one of the few constants on British IRC, has an all too good
episodic memory and created a lot of the history here anyway
(he's a smug bugger too!).
-
Brian Blackmore (Eternal00's) personal view of #gb seems to
be Brian's personal view of the #gb to #dl-bar split. It typifies
the "there was no Internet before I arrived" mentality. Compare this
with Michael's history and bear in mind that this account is set in
late 1994.
- For a "different" outlook on what #gb is, have a look at the original
#gb FAQ, by Adrian Wragg (Lucozade). This was
written before the #DL-Bar people split away from #gb, and shows something
of the old attitudes that we have tried to dispose of.
